Agenda
Since we had to cancell this meeting, would we like to reschedule and when?
Unfortunately, I would not be able to attend on any mondays until Feb. 28th. ---Clare
I will not be at the meeting. I am attending the MLA YSS meeting where one of our Northeast members is proposing a Teen Choice Book Award! More on that later.
So my announcements are:
- Summer 2008: orders have been sent into JanWay for posters, bookmarks, logs, etc. These items will be shipped to you directly in, I think, April. Clip art and manual online password will be sent to those of you who ordered these materials in the next week. I am holding trainings on the online reading program in February and March. This is the ReadsinMa program which will be returning next summer. There are all sorts of enhancements and improvements being made to the program - very exciting stuff! Sign up for training or call me if you would like on site training. I can do that! We have not heard yet from Waste Management Sponsorship for 2008 but we are very optimistic that it will happen.
- Summer 2009: yes, we are already planning for this! There are some great theme possibilities and also possible new collaborations and sponsorships. One possiblity is with WGBH. When I know more you will be the first to know!
- Workshops 2008: I have set up a fairly full calendar for January - April. All of the workshops are listed on our CE Calendar A few highlights are:
- Friday, January 18, 10-12, NMRLS - Summer Reading Program Orientation - Is 2008 going to be your first summer reading program? If so, come to this orientation which will focus on Wild Reads at your library. In this workshop, there will be plenty of discussion on how and what to plan for. Even if 2008 is your second or third summer, this orientation will offer a lot of helpful tips and stragies
- Thursday, January 24, 10-12, NMRLS - Open House - An informational Open House to meet the NMRLS staff and learn about regional programs and services.Open to any library staff member. Great as an introduction for new staff! Refreshments will be served.
- Tuesday, January 29, 9:30-12:30 and 1:30-4:30, NMRLS - Strategies for Hearing It Right the First Time and Strategies to Communicate Effectively and Be Heard as Intended - Both workshops led by Pat Sordill. She is an excellent facilitatator and teaches skills we all need, no matter our position.
- Wednesday, February 6, 3:00-6:00 - Public and School Collaboration: the Homework Bridge (see calendar for full description!)
- Monday, February 11, 10-12, NMRLS - Storytimes: What Works, What's New - If you are tired of rehashing your traditional storyhour year after year, then why not visit the storyhour practices of your colleagues? Let’s showcase our programs in a show-and-tell roundtable. You’re invited to bring your best (or favorite) storytime program craft, activities and books to share to help boost someone’s storytime metabolism. Bring all related books, crafts, songs, and activities. Handouts are greatly appreciated!
